" To James Eadie His life was one long aria./ He lived alone against a chorus/ That filled the stage of what he loved,/ His own theatre, whether sung or spoken,/ Of his many students,/ Stretching/ Under his searching eye/ To find/ A glimmer of the subterranean/ Drive of life within the characters/ With whom they struggled,/ And his friends, acquaintances,/ Who played their roles around him/ As he expected them to do./ Otherwise,/ In the darkness of his room,/ He let the great voices of that other stage/ Soar around and over and through him/ From the silver casts that lined his shelves./ Beyond all of them,/ The world clattered around him/ As he kept such disturbed things/ For the intermissions, which he tried to make/ As brief as possible./ He made his exit quietly/ With some pain./ He deserves our applause./ Carl Hare, March 2021 "

About him

James Eadie

James Eadie

Passed on: February 25th, 2021

James Philip Eadie passed away at home in February 2021, aged 78. James was a teacher, actor, director and writer. He taught drama and acting to thousands of students in high schools and universities over the years. He had a fierce love of the best in theatre, film and opera, a love which he imparted to friends and students. James got an early start to his life in theatre while living in France: at the age of four, he acted in a film with Edith Piaf, and soon after that, with Gina Lollobrigida. He taught Drama and English at MacEwan University for 33 years, and after retirement in 2017 spent his time writing and adding to his extensive collection of film and opera discs. To remember James, you may wish to enjoy some Alberta film, theatre or opera, and to make a contribution to one of the many local theatres or to Edmonton Opera.
